Biography/HistoryBefore the dam was built, members of the Three Affiliated Tribes lived in several small communities or on ranches. This ranch, located on Missouri River bottomlands, was flooded by the waters of the Missouri River that rose behind the dam in 1954 creating Lake Sakakawea.
